The Challenge
Hamilton-Pierce came to us after experiencing frustration with their previous design team. While technically competent, their previous designers struggled to capture the vision Hamilton Pierce had for their website. The client needed more than just technical execution – they needed a partner who would provide creative direction and multiple design concepts to choose from.
"We were updating our website and the designers which we had, although they were good, they didn't seem to understand exactly what we wanted which was difficult to relay to them as we really wanted more ideas and layouts for the website for a comparison of what we liked best," explained the Hamilton-Pierce team.
Our Collaborative Approach
Led by our senior designer Dylan, we implemented what we call a "design conversation" process. Instead of expecting clients to perfectly describe their vision upfront, we show them real design options and refine based on their reactions.
For Hamilton-Pierce, this meant:
First, we created several completely different website layouts
Then, we walked through each design with the client, noting what they liked and didn't like
Next, we combined their favorite elements into improved versions
Finally, we repeated this show-and-refine process until we reached the perfect design
This approach is like trying on different outfits rather than describing clothes to a tailor. It's much easier to point at something and say "I like this navigation bar but prefer that color scheme" than to explain abstract concepts.
"We spoke to Dylan, who although he didn't know exactly what we wanted at first, he was willing to spend the time on our suggestions to bring together a draft form for our website with different layouts for us to consider. We were very pleased with his suggestions and clarity of ideas and the result is the website we have now."
This back-and-forth design conversation eliminated guesswork and ensured the final website truly reflected what Hamilton-Pierce needed, not just what they could initially describe.
The Results
The redesigned Hamilton-Pierce website has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly regarding its intuitive navigation and visual appeal.
